Is it very stupid to email the interviewer to adjust my expected salary? To lower it actually as my first answer may be too high and may get me rejected? This happens before I get an offer.

Never negotiate via email. This is something that is done either in person or at the very least on the phone. Make sure you have well thought out reasons for wanting the increase for the salary offered. The reasons should never be about anything personal such as the drive is too long, or I’m the sole support for my family, etc. all good reasons for you, but the company shouldn’t have to pay more in salary because of your personal issues. Especially the driving distance…if it’s too far, don’t apply to that company…and more money doesn’t make the drive shorter and if its tough in the beginning it only get tougher as the days and weeks go on. It can, however, be on the value you will bring due to your several years of expertise in the exact thing that is important to the company; and what the market is paying for the same position.

Negotiate in-person or on the phone!

Good luck!
