What do job recruiters just "get" that job seekers just don't?
I believe you are asking what do we “get” in the interview process that a job seeker may not get, correct?
I think the first thing in my experience as a career recruiter, I/we get that it is not only about what you know and your experience (which is important), but we know that cultural fit makes a huge impact…how you fit into the team, communication, are you arrogant vs. confident, will you yield to how things are done on their team. Companies do not want to make a bad hire and they almost always hire someone likeable…all these things are not discussed, but make a huge impact in the hiring process…a good recruiter knows their client and knows what type of personality works well with them and their pain points and can give you this insight…with that said that may all change in the future as unfortunately the process is quickly becoming more about algorithms than the actual person and what they personally bring to the job…which is very bad for the hiring industry. Amazon recently uncovered bias’s in their hiring process with algorithms that sourced 95% of white men. I hope that companies will use algorithms in combination with actually meeting potential employees for the best hires.
In closing, mirror your interviewer to the best of your ability along with selling your skills, knowing your audience and showing how you would add value and in my opinion that is your best chance to ace the interview and get the job!
Hope that helps!
