What do you do when a friend of yours asks you to get him a job where you work, but you know that he does not meet the requirements to work in that company as (responsibility and others)?

That’s a tricky situation to navigate.

You don’t want the responsibility if it does not work out on either side, but, you want to help this person. You can let this person know that you know for a fact that they won’t hire someone unless they have a requirement that you know they do not have, however, you will keep them posted for positions that you feel they would be a better fit for them. Make sure for your own benefit that this skill is actually required (use this reason as you said your friend does not meet your company requirements). Then really keep him posted as positions open up that could be a fit.

If you do not feel he/she has a great work history or other reasons why you personally feel they would not be a good employee, you may have to use a white lie by saying you are not comfortable with referring people as in the past you did and it did not work out and it put you in a bad place with your boss. You can help in other ways by telling him about a post for a job you saw that might help them and send him the link, etc.

This is a tough one…I hope I helped!
