I'm the CEO of a startup. My CIO just admitted to me that he doesn't actually know anything about computers. What should I do?

Hopefully, this person was not too entrenched in your environment before discovering this information. The CIO functions are broad but they have to know how technology drives the business therefore technology experience is a must thus the title Chief (top position) Information (technology info) Officer. Doesn’t get any higher in technology than that. A CIO is not usually hands on with computers, however, they have come up through the ranks of technology…if this person has no technical background not sure how he landed the job. Bring in someone else and promote a VP or Director to hold the spot in the interim. This is where a technical recruiter is necessary.

Let this person know you appreciate their honesty and that the position requires solid knowledge in technology!

Hope this helps!
